Our Story
East meets West

The Early Years

When I was a little girl my father had me in the garden. I was the most willing of three daughters to get my hands dirty! Working with my dad, I developed a strong connection to the earth.  All the while growing up in Narragansett, where we spent our time surfing and exploring the woods and fields. As I got older, mu adventurous spirit took me to far away places, over land and sea, and a deep appreciation of place was instilled.

I have since ived in California, Florida, BVI, Puerto Rico  and Arizona. Each place gave me a larger picture of the world as a system. I studied Aquculture, Range Management, Animal Science and Fisheries. Each field gave me more scientific knowledge.

I gravitated towards wild animals to learn their true nature. I spent countless, blissful hours in the mountains, streams, oceans, and deserts.

After many adventures, I landed in Arizona with a coyote dog, a wild mustang, and soon, a baby boy.  But Narragansett was calling me home.

Where We are Today

Once back in my coastal home town, I discovered a degradation of the town I once knew. I could tell this was also having an impact on the people. Everyone was grumpy.

Since then I have been studying ways to reverse the damage done through reckless “growth”.  One way is by reclaiming ecosystems in spaces like backyards.

I also discovered that  there was no real education out there about the importance of our native habitat.  Most yards became sterile, lifeless, even toxic.  The landscape industry was useless. Most being locked in a pattern of  making a lot of easy money selling glam and convenience..

Another discovery was that one lifeless yard affects the whole community. No yard is an island. I realized there was a need for help and work to be done to get us back.

I created Betty Betty, Landscaping for Life to help address this modern problem. I have been growing, learning, and improving yards ever since. It is my hope that we can all transform our living spaces into actual Living Spaces! I Love what I do!

Adding the Little Farm Cottage

Little Farm Cottage as a guest stay came as an empty nester idea. Everyone who visited here wanted to stay.  All expressed how relaxing it was to be “on the farm”. I really didn’t like an empty house, so decided to share, and opened the small cottage upstairs to visitors. Now guests can share in this retreat, and every improvement I make to the property adds elements of discovery to those who visit.

I still own property in Arizona, and am working to repeat the process there. I would love to have a place where visitors can come for adventure and fall in love with the desert.

  The beautiful Sonoran

A Source of Inspiration for a Balanced World

Our Arizona Retreat

Nestled on the side of Daisy Mountain, the Cradlerock “ranch” has views of Circle Mountain and the small valley below. Stay tuned for when we get this on board as a vacation destination.

Special thanks to Yote Coyote, the inspiration for our logo. Yote was a beloved travel companion, from RI to CA to Mexico, and every state in between.  The adventures would not have been the same without him. He is dearly missed.

True Desert

Once you spend time in the desert, you will never be the same. The natural Sonoran desert is one of the most beautiful in the world, and if you let it, it will touch your soul.
