Little Farm Cottage

The "Keep" is a small, one bedroom cottage that sits on 1.5 acres surrounded by Christmas tree farm. We lease the top floor which, although rustic in nature, offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. The house is small but open and bright with lots of light. The bathroom is oversized and luxurious, and the secluded back deck offers more living space out of doors. This is a working farm, with a horse and nursery stock, so I will often stay at the property. My space is the bottom part of the cottage, and I always respect the needed space of my guests. One of the things I love about this setting is the privacy from neighbors, and the nature that surrounds. For more detailed information, click the star below

On the Property

Your companion during your stay is a thirty year old Mustang named Ruby Mountain Tuesday, or “Mija (pronounced Meehah) for short. Mija was born a wild horse in the Ruby Mountains of Nevada, where the BLM took her from her family and put her up for adoption. Mija came to me in California when she was a baby, and she has been with me ever since. She has traveled from Nevada, to California, to Arizona to Rhode Island. A well traveled horse! Mija means “darling” or “my daughter” in Spanish slang.

Projects

We are always improving and adding fun things. Right now we are planning a cowboy tub for long hot soaks under the stars. We found an old cast iron tub and want to have it ready for this season. There is a fabulous outdoor shower we added a few years ago – many of my guests like it so much they never use the indoor one! An additional patio was added last year for even more fun space to hang out. and we are not done!  There are so many possibilities and we can’t wait to see them become realities. You will never want to leave!

The little farm cottage was built in the 1940’s from lumber taken on the same street ( it was a dirt road back in those days). The property lies in the Saugatucket River Valley, an important watershed that runs from here all the way through Peacedale Mill Works and then out to Pt. Judith Pond and into the sea. Our little known hamlet, Mooresfield, is only survived by stone walls, hidden stone bridges, burial sites, and a handful of historical homes.  It is a peaceful area, and the many gardens and outdoor spaces here are yours to explore and enjoy after a long day of adventure. We have a Central South County location. We are close to beaches, restaurants, shopping, rail, URI, and all points north and south. Newport is a scenic 20 minutes away. It’s the best of all worlds – where Country meets the Coast
